Collection Week 2009

Well it is finally here, you do your best to plan but it always seems to catch you by surprise. However, it has been a great collection thus far. The volunteers have been very busy and doing a great job of packing the shoe boxes in the cartons.

Monday

Considering it was the first day of collection, Monday was big. This year seems to be bigger then the previous years. We had a great bunch working today. Our special workers really made the labor a joy. Thanks to the Beeson family for their help. Other volunteers included Dave & Ouida Tettleton, Keith Brown, Gerald & Geraldine Sells, Bob Daniel, Sharon Martin, Carol Becht, And Meredith Whiteman. Thanks to all for your service.

Monday

Tuesday

FBBC Ministers were a real blessing!  They loaded over 100 cartons onto the truck.

Wednesday

We were blessed to have Parkview Baptist students and teachers deliver over 900 filled shoeboxes, and then to pack them into cartons and load them onto the truck.

To date (after Wednesday) this year we have collected over 3,000 shoeboxes, and packed over 1,200 cartons.

Keep on bringing those shoeboxes!  Share God's Word with more children!

Continue to Pray for those that will be receiving these gifts. Remember it is not about the toys, it is the Gift of the life changing Gospel that goes with each Shoe Box.

Thanks to all for your Service!

2009 TOTAL

12,400 Shoe Boxes

Record Year!

This is a ministry of Franklin Graham and Samaritans Purse. FBBC is the regional collection center. We need volunteers to help collect and pack shoeboxes that will be shipped across the world. This ministry reaches every nation and people group with the gospel of Christ.

If you choose to pack a shoe box you can follow these five simple steps:

1. SHOE BOX
Use an empty shoe box (standard size, please) or a small plastic container.
You can wrap the box (lid separately), but wrapping is not required.

2. BOY OR GIRL?
Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child’s age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14.
Mark the correct age category on the label, and tape the label to the top of your box.

3.FILL WITH GIFTS
Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. (See list below for suggestions)

    Gift Ideas:

  • TOYS: small cars, balls, dolls, stuffed animals, kazoos, harmonicas, yo-yos, jump ropes, small Etch A Sketch®, toys that light up or make noise (with
    extra batteries), Slinky®, etc.
  • SCHOOL SUPPLIES: pens, pencils and sharpener, crayons or markers, stamps and ink pad sets, writing pads or paper, solar calculators, coloring and picture books, etc.
  • HYGIENE ITEMS: toothbrush, toothpaste, mild bar soap (in a plastic bag), comb, washcloth, etc.
  • OTHER: Hard candy and lollipops (please double bag all candy), mints, gum, T-shirts, socks, ball caps; sunglasses, hair clips, toy jewelry, watches,
    flashlights (with extra batteries)
  • A PERSONAL NOTE: In a separate envelope, you may enclose a note to the child and a photo of yourself or your family. (If you include your name and address, the child may write back.)

     DO NOT INCLUDE

  • Used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives or military figures; chocolate or food; liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans

4. INCLUDE YOUR DONATION
Please donate $7 or more for each shoe box you prepare to help cover shipping and other project costs.* You can give online, or you can write a check to Samaritan’s Purse (note “OCC” on memo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the gift items inside your box. If you or your family are preparing more than one shoe box, please make one combined donation.

5.DROP OFF
Place a rubber band around each shoe box and lid and drop off at church in mid-November. The National Collection week is November 16-23.
